Things to do

You can find a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants in Preston. Fishergate, one of Preston’s shopping centres and the nearby high street, is a mix of historical architecture, and a modern shopping experience.

Preston’s claim to fame is the spire of the St Walburge Church, one of the tallest structures in Lancashire. Built in the mid-1800s, the church has a Gothic Revival style, and is a great place to view and learn about Preston’s history.

A stroll around the Preston Docks is a great way to relax. The dockland used to be one of the largest trading ports in the North West, and was celebrated as the largest single dock in the UK at the time it was built. Alternatively, you can also enjoy a trip to the local ODEON cinema.

In Preston, you’ll also find parks perfect for dog walking such as Avenham and Miller Parks, Haslam Park, Winckley Square, and Moor Park.

There are also several gyms in Preston offering workouts and personal trainers.

Shopping

Fishergate High Street shopping centre has the largest collection of shops in Preston.

There are clothing retailers like Primark, Tessuti, M&S, and Next, as well as health and beauty brands like Lush, Bodycare and Boots. Fishergate also has a Waterstones and a WHSmith.

Apart from Fishergate, there’s also St George’s Shopping Centre on Friargate Street, which offers a wide range of clothing, beauty, jewellery, and tech shops. St George’s also has several restaurants and cafes.

Transport

Preston Train Station, located just off Fishergate main street, offers quick access to all of Preston’s city centre attractions in minutes. The train station is a historical building and hosts a variety of routes, including services to London Euston, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, Blackpool, Colne, Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly, Ormskirk, and York.

Preston also hosts an active bus service throughout the city, with its bus station being over 50 years old and a Grade II listed building.

Food and drink

Popular places to eat in Preston include Mowgli’s, an Indian street food restaurant designed around swing seats. With a selection of spiced curries, starters and finger foods, the restaurant provides something for everyone - all while sitting on a swing!

Other popular restaurants include Bar Pintxos. Offering the best of Spanish cuisine and culture to the city of Preston. Heavily influenced by the informal yet spectacular food, drink and music scene of San Sebastian.

If you’re looking for a more traditional English lunch, you can head to one of Preston’s many pubs, including 1842 Restaurant and Bar, Slug and Lettuce, or the Stanley Arms.
