Tell us a little bit about yourselves: 

We met 37 years ago on a night out in Chesterfield, Martyn was in the Royal Navy at the time and I worked at Auto Windscreens in the town. When Martyn left the navy, we moved into a council house in North Wingfield. Then in 2002 we decided to buy our own house in Grassmoor and had our daughter, Megan, to complete our family. 

In recent years, a lot of new build developments have sprung up in the Chesterfield area and we had always dreamed of owning a bigger, more modern property. Whilst walking on the Five Pits Trail last year, we saw the Earl’s Park development and thought what a lovely place to live. We contacted the site and spoke to James, who invited us to visit their sister site Alma Place around the corner for a show home viewing. 

Which house type did you buy and why did you choose it?

There were two house types in our price range which James had shown us – The Leyburn and The Cadeby. After viewing both, we opted for the Leyburn because we liked the size of the rooms and the overall house layout. 

Why did you choose Avant Homes over other developers? 

We chose an Avant home because we loved the layout of the houses and the area that the development is in. It was also a bonus that they offered Part Exchange. 

Why did you choose to buy a new build property over a second-hand home?

We always dreamt of buying a new build home, so that everything is new. We felt like this would now be our forever home, so it would favour less maintenance for us in later years. 

How did you find the buying process?

The whole buying process with Avant was very quick and went smoothly, it helped that we weren’t in a chain by using the Part Exchange scheme.

What do you love about your Avant Home?

Our home has a fantastic position on the development and stands well as you pull up to property. We love the overall size of the property and having a dedicated utility room is amazing.

Did you go for any upgrades from Avant’s optional extra range?

We had fitted wardrobes installed in all our bedrooms and upgraded our shower in the main bathroom. 

How has your life changed since you moved into your Avant Home?

As soon as we moved in, we felt settled into our new family home.

Do you have any tips for anyone looking to buy with Avant Homes?

Avant’s Part Exchange scheme is a great option for anyone wanting to move quickly, with no chain and estate agent fees to pay.
